Justin Johnson (born May 23, 1982, Eau Claire, Wisconsin) is a filmmaker, videographer, and video blogger based in Brooklyn, New York. Johnson began experimenting videoblogging in December, 2003[1] and launched Vidblogs.com in 2004.[2]

Johnson launched Film Fights (filmfights.com) in November 2003 to help further his self taught video skills and to create a shared location for other lone filmmakers to talk, collaborate, and compete. Creating monthly challenges, he created a world community of almost 1500 film groups who entered over 1800 films in 165 competitions.[3] With the launch of College Humor, Johnson became one of their original writers (from 2002–2005)[4][5][6] and joined the staff in early 2004.

When Fred Seibert founded Next New Networks in early 2007, Johnson became the company’s creative lead.[7][8] When Next New Networks was acquired by YouTube in March 2011,[9] Johnson became a Google employee.

On November 16, 2009, Johnson made world history by being the first person in the world to become engaged using tumblr and Vimeo, asking girlfriend Marissa Nystrom to marry him by video.[10][11][12][13]

He started a project in late 2010, YouTube Time Machine (aka YTTM), allowing the selection of a year from 1897 to 2010 and YTTM will randomly select a video from that year for your viewing pleasure.[14][15][16][17] An App was released for it in June 2011,[18] that allows users to access the service directly, it went up to the #1 spot on the Most Popular Overall Apps list, #2 on the chart for Entertainment, and #30 on the list for Overall Apps.[19][20][21]
